It was on the advice of a good friend (who had previously studied with Thea) that I took a poetry workshop with Thea two years ago. At the time, I had all but stopped writing poetry seriously and I was looking for a swift kick in the pants. Thea's warm, encouraging but always serious teaching manner was exactly what I needed! Through free write driven warm-ups, re-writes and the close study of published poets' texts, I worked out kinks in old material and found my way into new poems that I still adore. Most importantly, though, I left Thea's workshop with a spring in my step and a lot more confidence in my writing to boot. Now I've decided to take the plunge and pursue an M.F.A. There's no doubt in my mind that Thea's workshop inspired me to take my writing seriously again and pushed me toward greater literary heights.
